Way To Go, Janet! One week is huge! FWIW, here's a timeline of what happens when you quit smoking.

  • In 20 minutes your blood pressure will drop back down to normal.
  • In 8 hours the carbon monoxide (a toxic gas) levels in your blood stream will drop by half, and oxygen levels will return to normal.
  • In 48 hours your chance of having a heart attack will have decreased. All nicotine will have left your body. Your sense of taste and smell will return to a normal level.
  • In 72 hours your bronchial tubes will relax, and your energy levels will increase.
  • In 2 weeks your circulation will increase, and it will continue to improve for the next 10 weeks.
  • In 3 to 9 months coughing, wheezing, and breathing problems will dissipate as your lung capacity improves by 10%.
  • In 1 year your risk of having a heart attack will have dropped by half.
  • In 5 years your risk of having a stroke returns to that of a non-smoker.
  • In 10 years your risk of lung cancer will have returned to that of a non-smoker.
  • In 15 years your risk of heart attack will have returned to that of a non-smoker.
Keep up the good work!

Wow, Janet! I'm impressed!

If you've gotten this far, you're already over the hardest part. Now you just have to make sure you don't backslide. I once quit for three months, a real miracle for me! Where I messed up is when I started thinking, "I've got it knocked now! Just one won't hurt!"

Well I am on a nicotine replacement therapy aide so that is helping but Im using a very small amount which is amazing to me considering how much I was smoking. I think I will be able to go off it soon though I am supposed to stay on it for at least 3 months to get me over the hurdle. Just back things down slowly. I dont quite know how much more slowly I can go though when sometimes I go a whole day with one cartridge...lol.

I really think I want this enough to continue. I have times when I think I want a cigarette but I go get a hard candy or go do something else and the urge passes. Lemon drops, cinnamon drops and water are becoming my best friends. I love Fruit2O...lol.
