It helped me focus on the here and now and less on what couldof/shouldof been. Have you suggested Alateen for girlfriend? If she would go there it would help her realizr how she is indeed enabling him and teach her better methods to handle his issues with compassion and strength. I would just go and pick up some of their pamphlets and hand them to her saying "Please read these and consider this". Nothing more than that. No pleading no lecture no trying to convince her.
