My point wasnt to cause an uproar. I found this article on a chronic pain board I frequent. I just found it interesting that psychiatrists are top of the list for drug reps. I have no problem with them seeing the doctors and taking in samples and telling them about the newest and greatest drugs. In fact, I have spoken with drug reps when I have seen them at the doctors offices before and advocated for the medications that I take and told them how much I like them. They thank me for my input and have asked me to contact the company with my thoughts which I have. No I dont get the lunches or the fruit baskets but I think patient reports go a long way too. I do think there needs to be some sort of oversight though so that doctors arent prescribing only what is now being brought in to them. Maybe not a government agency but a committee of doctors. But advances are good. Doctors do need to be kept up on all new medications. Its a two way thing. No easy answers here.
