Sigh. Another work drama. Now what do I do?

Never ever compromise your integrity-if you do that, then you become no better than those you work with that haven't got any.

Steely,

It's hard to see things that are wrong and not want to do something about it, but the best advice you got here was from yourself.

Possibly the most positive change you can make here is to look for a position that has better things to offer you, with another company.

If it's something that is truly illegal, go to the DA or the State Atty General or the general agency in charge of the industry (Banking Dept., Ins Dept or whatever). They have people there who know how to protect whistleblowers and at the very least, your complaints will be documented so you might have a case if they fire you. If you are fired before, they will claim you complained to get back, but if you complained first and can establish that your firing was retaliatory, you could win.

Honestly it sounds like you are having so many problems at work that I don't think I would stir up another bee's nest. If they are doing illegal things it will eventually come back to bite them.

If I were you I would find another job. This added stress just isn't worth it.

Personally I would make sure I CYA so that nothing can come back and bite you. Make sure your name cant be tied into anything illegal or immoral.

When I left my last job I had a coworker who ended up sitting at my desk after I left and using the computer at my desk to surf the web looking at gay porn sites. Lots of them. Eventually they pulled the lugs on the computer from that desk but they blamed ME! No one stood up and said that this man had been sitting at my desk...they just said that some woman who had left the company had sat at that desk. Now why would I look at gay male sites? I never got the chance to defend myself and they will never hire me back. I even tried to turn this guy in one time for doing this same thing on HIS computer. He was a brown noser and now works for the state instead of the county with welfare...sigh. I guess its who you do...oops...who you know.

Steely, we're all idealistic and honest or we wouldn't be raising g'sfg.
But your workplace sounds like it's been a losing proposition from the get-go. At the very least, they have no backbone. At most, they are corporate cheats.
Right now, if I were you, I would just focus on my own needs and get a job that isn't so much emotional work. You've had a rough yr and deserve a place where you can put your energy into real, honest, productive work, rather than "making it work."
Believe me, there are plenty of corporate mafias out there that deserve to be taken down, and when you're up to it in the future, you can go after them. But right now, I'd give it a rest, just to save your energy.
FWIW.

But, I am so confused. I always assumed that we had the right to a fair and equal workplace. Yet, every single on of you has said you were never give that, just like me.
So am I to assume that I have been living in an illusion? The corporate world will never be able to be trusted?
And the only recourse is???? My own company? Small companies. Compromise of my integrity?
I am so very confused.

Steely,
The thing about the corporate world is, it's motivated by profit and loss, not by fairness, equality, integrity or anything else. All of those qualities exist in many corporations, but those qualities are not the companies' reasons for existing.

In many cases companies do pay attention to those qualities, because they're good for business. It makes financial sense to treat employees well so that you can retain good people. It makes financial sense to make products that are environmentally sustainable, non-toxic, useful, good for people's health, etc. because that's what matters to customers.

However, even when a company has a lot of personnel and personality issues, if it's still making money and getting good customer approval ratings, then the problems don't ever get to the attention of the executives, the ones who have sufficient power to make the changes needed to get rid of the rot. Until this sort of thing starts to cost the company money, customers or its reputation, things are not likely to change.

It sounds like the company you work for has lost its way. It's probably doing well enough that the balance sheets look good to the folks upstairs and they're not looking any deeper. I would get out now, before you get tarred with the same brush as the unethical people you're having to deal with.

When you're choosing a place to work, make sure that it feels right to you. Don't take company ratings so much on faith. There are ways to make a company look great for those reviews, that do not necessarily show everything below the surface. Or, it could be that you just got stuck in the one rotten branch in an otherwise great place.

Either way, I'm sorry that you're having to deal with all of this. Working somewhere that makes you miserable can drain all of your energy away. With everything else you're having to deal with right now, you need your work to be a haven of peace and order.
