SpEd Pay - how does that work?

Does anyone know how the payscale works for SpEd Teachers? I know for "regular ed" teachers, its generally based on contract and is pretty much the same across the board for teachers at the same level. Is it the same for sped?

Generally, it is the same but if the district is having trouble getting sped teachers they can declare it a "shortage area" and pay a premium. There are also ways to manipulate the budget to get a teacher a few extra thousand by giving them 'stipends' for extra work.

Here they are on the same pay scale as regular ed teachers.

likewise on the same pay scale. but they can be paid extra days for example to add to their salary if they have more work before or after start/finish of school. And they may be paid for summer school duties.
