Summer

Today is my kids' last day of school. Yayyyy! And my last day of work before summer vacation will be June 30th. We don't have any specific plans, other than going to the beach as often as possible and attending the county fair. Difficult child has summer school in July Monday through Thursday half days. I am hoping it won't be too difficult to get her there during the week as it starts at 7:30 a.m. Yikes! At least I won't have the school hounding me every time she misses. Summer school isn't mandatory and we are choosing to send her there because she is behind on credits. Hopefully she can at least make up something. Anyway, as I've been battling some physical pain and I am still not mentally well, I am grateful for the two month break. So what do you all have planned this summer?

I am channeling my inner bum. Difficult Child is stewing in juvie prison. I am trying to decide if I want to go somewhere or remodel my kitchen. Hmmmmmm decisions decisions....

That takes more than two seconds to decide?
UNLESS... the decision is between a rejuvenating escape, and two months (or more) of chaos, in which case it would depend on what day you asked. I'd still want to have the kitchen done but... maybe not this year?

I am leaning towards remodeling. Which opens up a whole other conundrum. I think I will have a glass or two of wine and watch the rain.

Since I went back to work full time four years ago (well, four days a week) and Difficult Child son graduated from high school last June, summer is just the hottest part of the year! When I was a stay at home mom when the kids were little it was all about sleeping in, staying up late, lazy days at the pool, etc.

Now that I'm grown up :|, it just kinda melds into the rest of the year. We now take our family vacation to the beach in September when the crowds are gone and the weather is gorgeous. It was great doing that last year for the first time not having to worry about taking anyone out of school. We'll be going down to the outer banks in September for a week in a beach front cottage -- a long time to wait but so worth it!!!!

The one thing I do in the summer still is move Fridays. Since both difficult child and I are off on Fridays, we go to the movie theatre almost every other Friday. We usually go to the first show of the day to avoid the crowds. We have a frequent movie goer pass so we get discounts on tickets and concessions. We've seen three already!

Enjoy your summer!

Enjoy your vacation LittleDude'mom it sounds wonderful. We will also probably go to a few matinees too. My mom usually pays for us so it's nice. Two more weeks to go for me. I can't wait!

Yup summer just means hot, and less traffic on the way to work because school is out. Work is still work. I already took my beach week/summer vacation in early June, it was great because most kids weren't out of school yet and it wasn't crowded (is it bad that I've turned totally anti-kid in my "old age?!" I cringe at families with little kids and think, "I'm so glad I'm past that...") I love it there in September/October too, but I can't wait that long for a vacation! I'll go back for a long weekend in a couple months.

Crazy, we used to do our beach week the first week the kids got out of school -- kinda a reward for the school year and "let's get outa dodge!". But since I started working, I feel like I need to have something to look forward to! But, avoiding the crowds is a great plus!

Glad your daughter is taking summer school. Have you decided what she is going to do for school next year?

A kitchen remodel sounds wonderful!
I would love to do that, but hubby is too cheap (I mean frugal).
When we retire in the wonderful warm south, many years in the future, I am going to have a house built exactly the way I want, though. At least, that's the plan.

It looks like a couple of prisoners think they should get a summer break.

Oh, bad joke, but I couldn't resist!

As for my plans this summer, we are biking and camping and hiking and fishing and boating in the area now that the nice weather is here. Grilling or cooking fish every night for supper. Roasting marshmallows to make s'mores at the fire pit. Reading books outside. Swimming occasionally. Yard work often. We do school year round, as my daughter and I often go south to visit my older kids in January or February. (Just a coincidence that we go south during the worst parts of the cold northern winters.) We went to Chicago once already to a museum and probably will go back at least once more this summer.

We will probably go to the lake for a week or so in late August, after most of the crowds have gone back to school and the cabin rates are cheaper.

Next week daughter and I are going to my grandmother's house in yet another state. She is in her 90s and not doing real well. I go every so often to visit and do some deep cleaning. We are going to go through her kitchen and pantry/freezer/fridge/cabinets.

My brother and I would like to go to my mom's this fall and paint the inside of her house. It needs it, and she is not able to do that kind of work anymore.

So much to do, so little time!

C'mon guys, post your plans!

by the way, I am very happy that I still have a young child!

To each his own. No judgements either way. Just adding my thoughts.

Of course, I would probably feel differently if she were difficult, but she is such a joy to be with.

The general plan is for husband and I to spend time together as often as possible. We have kayaks we are really enjoying so I figure more of that will be involved. Unfortunately husband will be gone for the entire month of July and changing jobs in August so getting away has to wait until September when we are heading to Cancun for a week kid free.

The kids are both visiting the grands for a week but other than that we have no real plans for them.

Yeah, with all the money we are sinking into the house right now we will be lucky to spend a weekend in St Louis or going to the casino.
