Terrifying and Heart Breaking Event

This is one of husband and I biggest fear. When will then, will they, come after you? After we put them in Residential Treatment Facility (RTF)? Does that make it worse? This terrifies me. Never in my wildest dreams would I ever have tought to fear my child. Just last year we had a family down the street who was slaughtered (with a knife) by the middle son, the Mom, Dad, sister. Very scary stuff.

The only good thing I see in this at this point is that the young man was caught. Who knows what he might have done to other family members- or anyone else. It seems obvious that mental illness is in full force in this one.

It is a tragedy, and I agree that the laws protecting difficult child's rights to refuse treatment should be re-evaluated. Especially when it's a situation where a parent can show they've been getting help for the kid when they were a minor and the kid still needs help.
