G'day, folk.
Sharon/WO, enjoy your quiet day, I hope you get in some power snoozing.
TM, I hope the playdate goes well, so you can arrange for your friend to return the favour. There's nothing like the satisfaction you get when you store up BIG favours in other people!
Sharon/LDM, sorry you hurt your arm again. At least the pain will be nicely authentic when you watch Terminator, so you can really identify with the characters copping all the biff on screen.
Andy, you sound well organised with the end of year gift bags.
About the trip and husband's feeling of having to be there for a work meeting - why not arrange for husband to attend via speakerphone/conference call? That way he can enjoy a holiday with you (and not lose out on what has already been booked) and still meet his sense of obligation. I had a conference call meeting yesterday, the school is increasingly arranging things this way and it works well. For now we're only doing it via telephone - any people unable to be there physically are hooking in via conference call, and we're on speaker-phone for all the people present in the flesh. I could hear everyone quite clearly, they could hear me, we got the meat of the meeting over and done with in 45 minutes.
With a bit of time in preparation (which I didn't have for yesterday's meeting) I could have arranged to use the built-in camera in the computer and hook in via the 'Net for a videoconference session. That way I could see them, they could see me and any need for the persoal touch would be met.
But as it was for me yesterday - they emailed the paperwork to me, we all edited it together round the table as we talked, then amended copy was emailed back in along with confirmation of the next meeting and some last minute informal discussion. It's the modern way to conduct business... tell that to husband and drag him along on your holiday anyway.
It's been a busy day today. We left early to get to the doctor on time. difficult child 3 has possibly a reinfection of something that could need antibiotics; or he may have an allergy and early asthma. Blood tests again in two weeks. I, on the other hand, have the best blood test results I've had in years, except there seems to be a hint of a problem in terms of protein metabolism. More blood tests again.
Then I saw the neurologist, who worked me to a later of sweat with some exercises he wants me to do, to increase flexibility.
After that it was difficult child 3's turn with the therapist.
In between we got some shopping done, mother in law got her blood tests done and we got home late. Tired.
Tomorrow I've got a meeting (with difficult child 3's therapist - a different one) plus easy child 2/difficult child 2 is meeting up with me to collect the pieces of bridesmaids' dress no 1, so she can hand-tack it together. She's also meeting up with a friend who is doing the hair & makeup. We talked today about plans for the bouquets, I found some lovely silk flowers but she is adamant - REAL flowers, please. At ten times the cost.
Meanwhile I have to get difficult child 3 moving with schoolwork over the weekend. Only I won't be home tomorrow to nag him, so little is likely to get done.
It's still raining and windy here, cold wintry weather. It's beginning to fine up over the next few days, hopefully. Up north it's flooding badly, the rivers are lapping the edge of the levee banks. The news is full of the evacuation procedures, the army stepping in to move people to higher ground before the crisis hits. Everything is swinging into place to be prepared. If the flood isn't too high, the levees will be manned with teams sandbagging. But if they know it will be futile, then efforts will go into early rescue of people and livestock.
It's a difficult time for a lot of people, but they've been through it before.
Enjoy your Friday.
