Well went to pain doctor early this morning and we had a little chat. They really dont do much for what I have going on except medicate with pain medications, a muscle relaxer I really have no use for and neurontin for the nerve pain.

If I want to do anything else I have to go to another specialist...sigh.

Well...we decided to change my pain medication. I didnt think that the methadone was doing anything for me and I was afraid of some of the reports I had read about higher doses. So we changed to morphine sulfate. This is an extended release tablet so I only take it twice a day and it is one of those that is formulated so that people cant steal them, cut and crush them to get high. Im thrilled about that. I dont have to worry about Cory anymore but I dont trust his friends.

I really hope these help me with some of the pain. I know it wont get rid of it but if I can just go from my current 8 down to a functional 5 I will take it.

I'm sorry you're in so much pain, I hope this helps you. It is truly awful being in constant pain. I can't imagine what you go through and I hope others around you are supportive and helpful. I understand on a very small scale, having this awful sunburn where I can't walk, or move, and forget about any chores or going to work like this. My family has no patience and expects me to have the laundry, dinner and why am I not going to work again? Plus for this short time I can't even smile I am not myself. I hope you can have some much needed relief and can feel more like yourself soon.

I hope the new medication bring relief for sure. I can say that my cousin is on the same medication and is doing much better with it than before it. Previously she'd been on several different pain medications, one of which led to addiction and abusing them (something she wasn't prone to prior to years needing pain medications). She had a few years medication free before finding a good pain doctor and this particular formulation for time release morphine has been life changing for her. She doesn't get high on them, she doesn't abuse them, they give a decent amount of relief. She has had to learn they aren't magic and won't give equal relief every day. SOme days are still hard for her with bad weather, dampness etc or if she overexerts herself. But if she is smart about things, paces herself etc, she now is doing things she enjoys that she couldn't do for many years with other medications. I hope you find the same for you. Pain hoovers.

I hope this helps you more, physically and emotionally. Did he have any names for someone you could see about your knees?

I hope the new medication helps. I haven't had the methadone increased in over 18 months and it isn't doing as much for me now. Heck, most days I would kill Occupational Therapist (OT) be at an 8. 5 hasn't been seen in I don't know how long. I may ask the doctor about this new medication you are on - I didn't know there was anything left to try. I took morphine for a few months iwth no relief of any kind, so maybe this new form would work better than the old one.

I hopw you are doing better and your knees get better. Everyone I know hwo has had knee replacement wishes they had done it years earlier.

Thanks everyone. I am already hopeful. I think I am feeling a tad bit better but maybe that is either placebo or the fact that the weather has turned...lol.. Or the fact that we have Keyana here which always makes me smile. I was feeling so bad that I sent Tony to take her to her dance class on Monday but for some reason she doesnt have school this week so she came home with him on Monday night and even though I am in pain, she does have my spirits up. They got their dance recital dresses on Monday too and she wore hers home and she is just so adorable in it. I will have to get a picture posted.

About the replacements. Another reason I am afraid, maybe its just this area but I have talked to three or four people here who have had them done who have said they are now worse than they were before they had them replaced. Of course, most of them are my size or slightly smaller so Im sure that makes a huge difference but that worries me and I am betting that is why my doctor isnt rushing me in.

Janet -

I think you will like those better.

They were pretty strong as I remember - so be careful. (not that I took them - but I remember watching Skippy the Space Cadet ---remember the story about getting up and moving the furniture in the middle of the night?) YUP.....morphine. So tell Tony I told him so. And apparently if he could do that? There wasn't any pain.....well, not for HIM anyway - I just heard.......skrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeech.....and came out to see DF moving the couch all over the den. Yeah I love morphine. It made him clean the H out of the house.

Hugs - and Happy cleaning!

Well I would love it if I would feel well enough to clean! Not feeling that well yet at all. I dont feel a bit spacey at all but then I never have except on those fentanyl patches they gave me when I first started there and that shocked me because I had been on them before without feeling bad. Those made me feel really bad even on phenergan. my knees and legs are still hurting if I stand or walk more than about 10 or 15 minutes but that seems to be what I should expect because that is what my ortho wrote on my file for disability. I just dont like it.
