A non-diagnosis thing that comes to mind when you talk about him sometimes is what we call around here... hard headed! He really gets into his idea of how he wants things to go.

Speaking of which, I last night came across a book I used to refer to regularly - "Raising your spirited child". I don't know how much J's "difficultness" is driven by his personality and character and how much by a "diagnosis" but he is definitely intense, spirited and hard headed. Unfortunately so am I... This is about my major challenge in dealing with him - how to stay in what the book calls the "green zone" instead of out-of-control, all emotions blazing "red zone" (both of us). I do recommend the book, by the way.
