There's always Australia... we have casinos in every state capital, plenty of sun-drenched beaches (which can be enjoyed in our summer, coinciding with the northern winter), our fresh fruit & vegetables are among the cheapest and best quality in the world (at least on the east coast, although it's getting cheaper on the west coast too) - we could find cheap accommodation outside the major capitals but still close enough to wander round the cities if you REALLY wanted to... the cheapest accommodation would be caravan parks, we have some which are like resorts but almost as cheap as tent sites. It's not the French Riviera, but we could come close in some ways; better it in others. Choose my area or Trish's, there would be some great places either way. I know it's unlikely, just don't forget your options may be wider than you think. And as for figs and palm trees - I'm sure Esther knows some good places in her area. I believe the fresh fruit in Israel is among the best in the world also. Marg
