Let's see them apply that same standard to the good ol' written note or being slammed into the locker/wall/other students, etc.

I believe that it should be a family matter how the teenagers use their right to expression. Of course I would be angry if my daughter did such an act but their cell-phones are private and if the sexting is done off school property, I don't see why the school should interfere.

I can see a lot of areas where the schools of today could improve with various actions of students ON CAMPUS. Why didn't they start there?

I dont think schools should get involved other than to have a HUGE student talk about how this is against the law. Get them all in the gym by classes and have the police come in and read them the riot act about what can happen if this happens. Just suspending them doesnt actually teach them anything. That isnt going to stop them. They need to really understand that it is illegal to distribute child pornography.

I got the impression that all that had been done before but the kids didn't listen, so the school tried this tactic.
