Just wanted to add my welcome to you to the board!!

The feeling you are going through are so completely understandable. Just remember that you did not do anything to cause this or these actions and feeling that your son has and is acting upon. You did not do something wrong in raising him, or not teaching him correctly as he grew up. He has a condtion, medically-mentally, that causes him to act in this manner.
YOU ARE NOT TO BLAME!!!
The best thing is for him to be at the hospital!! They will hopefully evaluate him and start him on some kind of medications. Having the authorities involved might help him to have to take the medications and see the doctors!! It can be a blessing in disguise. Take this time to think about things from a different perspective and use the calmer time while he is at the hospital to refresh yourself. Add strength to your inner battery, and you can be more able to deal with the things that are ahead.

Gently hugs and hope your way

You've gotten some great ideas here. That doesn't lessen the heartache ... that will happen with time.
But you do need to have a safety plan in place and also, CPS needs to be a support for you, not a hindrance. The more you can put in place and document beforehand, the better.
Hugs.
