It has been a long time and thought I'd quickly update. DS moved in with friends. They are sharing an apartment about half an hour away from us. We never see him and he calls only rarely, when he is expecting a piece of mail usually. For a while he wouldn't pick up when W called, but lately he's been answering the phone and engaging in relatively civil conversation. He has a minimal part time job, and tells us he is making money investing in cryptocurrency. We did allow him use of his car, and at first it worked out as his employment depends on it, but unfortunately he has now begun accumulating traffic and parking tickets, some of which are serious due to the high speeds he was driving when cited. He is still on felony probation so this is potentially a big deal for him. We received a letter that his license will soon be suspended. We called him to let him know and he was arrogant, cocky, insisting that it was all a bunch of BS and arguing his innocence, claiming the officer who pulled him over made a "mistake" and that he "wasn't worried" about possible consequences of driving on a suspended license. It is as I have always known, this young man is a sociopath/psychopath and inevitably he is going to end up in very deep trouble without some kind of divine intervention. It's his way or the highway. He is not asking us for money - we provide occasional gift cards for groceries, but that's all. We know nothing about YS these days, our texts and calls go unreturned. We know he is idle at home, not working or in school.
