yes that is what Lamictal did for my kid (though I don't think he is technically bipolar). He stopped raging, was much less irritable and depressed, and actually was more willing to attend school.  But he didn't have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) type issues.  It has really helped with depression (which manifested itself as anger and irritability and lack of interest).
