difficult child is turning 18 in just a few months. She has a custodial savings account....which we have agreed to give her gradually more control over. (Yes - I agreed....but I haven't actually done it yet. I still control every penny.) Here is the thing: we've been trying to let difficult child be in charge of more and more of her own decisions. She calls the docs to make her appts. She is in charge of her cell phone bill. She is buying most of her own clothes....that sort of thing. Now, she has decided that she wants to help a friend by loaning her $500. I am pretty sure that this loan will never be repaid...but difficult child is arguing that it is her money and she knows what she is doing, and yadda, yadda, yadda.... So what do you think? Would you let your nearly-18-year-old child give their friend a $500 loan?
