to see if it helps difficult child 2's chorea (shakey hands). He was on it for a little over two years (end of 1st grade through start of 4th) for help with emotional problems, and during that time his fine motor skills were also really good. But we think that when he had a strep infection in '05 that was not effectively treated, it resulted in this full-blown "flare" of Sydenham's chorea 16 months later, complete with major mood problems and a complete breakdown in his fine motor skills. At the time, his psychiatrist said it looked like early-onset bipolar. In hindsight, we (the neuro and I) believe it mostly due to Sydenham's. (Probably a small mood component in there as well, along with his ADHD. Jury's still out as to whether he's Asperger's too.) Since he had a serious dystonic reaction to Zyprexa last month, and looking back he had some minor dystonia symptoms on Abilify that I didn't recognize before (which was trialed after the Risperdal seemed to give out), we're going back to Risperdal since he had such good success with it for more than two years. Fingers crossed this does the trick!
