Yep, I feel like I know this youngster as well, although as time goes by, things change and the issues change and things may become more clear. My grandson was prescribed guanfacine also. Made him very sleepy for a week or two. It lowers blood pressure. And a catch-all term like ODD for a little guy like this? Hmmmm, I think you'll find it's a placeholder that describes some (maybe many) aspects of his behavior at this moment in time. Your mileage may vary, but some things get better with maturity, participation in facilitated social play groups, more extensive testing and observation, etc. And our kids all have functions to their behaviors. The fun (?) part is figuring out what they are and what to replace them with that serves that same function. Explosive Child is a good place to start, although he's too young to probably be able to participate in the communication piece. But it might be helpful for you to see another perspective. When my grandson hit kindergarten at 5, that was the bright line for "Uh oh..." for us and we dug deeper to find out what was going on. I understand how exhausting this chaos is, but my big takeaway from The Explosive Child was, if they could do better, they would. And then explore what the missing skills are and get to work. It's overwhelming at first. Stick with us--we got this. And when you feel like you don't (and we all do), we are here for mutual support.
