Bingo we have our answer. lol   All it takes is the person making the frosting being a bit more heavy handed with the food coloring, that in combo with the pumpkin........I think that is the most likely answer.

Hmm never heard of icing a pumpkin pie..........I thought that is what whipped cream is for. lol
