You all know Chester, right? And you know he's a runner. Well, he's figured out that if he makes it past the front door to the enclosed porch, all he has to do is jump up on the storm door and he's out. Granted, the little latch thingy was almost completely broken off and there wasn't much holding it shut. So today I went and bought a new handle. Took the old one off, put the new one on and checked it out. I didn't have to replace the little bar thingy (just full of proper technical terms aren't I?) because it was just the latch itself that was broken. It closed just fine, caught when I pushed on it. Then I went to go back in the house and the dog got on the porch, ran to the storm door, jumped up and...... GONE. The little snot BROKE the new latch. He weighs all of 18 pounds and the darn latch was on for all of 3 minutes. I spent fifteen freaking dollars on this handle and it's worthless now because apparently they don't make anything out of actual METAL anymore. Short of pawning my kid, tracking down and buying a metal handle/latch, any ideas? Yes, we caught him. difficult child managed to grab him in a couple of minutes because Chester was over at the girlfriend's house.
