Welcome! If your son is depressed and explosive, my suggestion is to find a board-certified child psychiatrist to evaluate him. Intermittent Explosive Disorder (IED) means the explosions are occurring periodically and the child exhibits normal behavior between episodes. If what you're seeing is happening non-stop, it's gone beyond Intermittent Explosive Disorder (IED). In addition, whatever underlying condition is causing these explosions (whether it's anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, etc) is fueling the ODD behaviors. So when you treat the underlying condition, the ODD behaviors will generally subside. That's why it's so important to have a thorough evaluation by the right professional to understand what's going on with your son. Depending on what the psychiatrist discovers, medications can and do help in certain instances. Unfortunately, it's a trial and error process that may take some time to discover the right combo. The medications your son has trialed may very well not have been the right ones to address the condition he's suffering from. Again, that's why you need to know exactly what's going on with him. Again, welcome and good luck.
