The over the stove microwave works the same way DDD - it has a fan on the bottom that sucks the air up - if you take out your old hood you should find the flue vent - you may want to get new tubing. Well, thats the way it worked with mine - I had this gigantic 1960 KitchenAid hood that never worked well anyway - don't think anyone had cleaned it since 1960 when I moved in.I love the over the stove micro - I didn't have a lot of counter space as it was..Marcie
