I remember just that absolute shock and horror. I spent the morning on the phone with my foster daughter's mother because she needed to hear her daughter's voice and I needed to hear another person's voice. Then we spent the evening in ER because husband got meningitis and we watched the news stories over and over. The ER was packed with the regular assortment of illness and injuries and tons of extra heart-related problems. We were in the hallway next to a girl of about 21-22, her uncle worked at the towers, had gotten up to his office when he realized he forgot to pick up a newspaper, thought about skipping it, but decided to go back down and get it. He exited the building in time to see the plane crash into it. brother in law lost 5 close friends (he grew up near NYC). This day will always be sad - too many lives lost, too many heros taken too soon.
