I had a root canal today. The tooth abscessed early Thursday morning and I've been on antibiotics since, vicodin and ibuprofen since. The endodontist told me that it would be painful, but much better than what I had been experiencing, and that cold will never bother that tooth again. This is my 6th root canal, so I know the drill by now, but have never had one done on a tooth that had abscessed. Anyway...the better part? Nuh uh. My cheek and tongue are still numb, but my tooth thawed out a long time ago - normal MO for me. And it hurts all the way up to my eye and into my sinuses - just like before the root canal. And cold? Like a bolt of electricity. I called the office and the receptionist said that's normal, but it's the exact opposite of what the doctor said, and completely different from my other experiences. Should I call the endodontist back to be seen tonight, or give it a day or two to calm down? I have to tell you, I'm pretty desperate. It's been 5 days of excruciating pain and I was really looking forward to some relief. Now that it's not happened, I want to cry. I don't seem to have as much tolerance for it as I did even earlier today.
