Sorry you are dealing with this. None of my parents has dared to say that difficult child doesn't have problems-some of them just think they have all the answers (mainly my mom and step mom-who both have different ideas). I'm lucky with mother in law-she's very helpful and doesn't try to tell us we are doing things wrong!
