Daughter is nearly done with her first term in college. Granted, it's community college, but nonetheless, she made it through with commendable grades. She's going to be in CC for about 3 1/2 years due to so many years of failing during her middle and high school years left her needing a lot of remedial work. Plus, severe education budget cuts in California has less classes for more students. Today was yet another high drama day for her. So much that I didn't come home for lunch to avoid interacting with her. It was time to sign up for her next term classes and she couldn't log on the school's website and was freaked about not getting the classes she wants and having to wait another term to get them. I tried to offer advice which she re soundly rejected. I yelled and she yelled. I left for work and texted an apology for my yelling. She would text me updates as the day progressed. Finally she got through and amazingly got all the classes she wanted at the times she wanted. Whew! So, the day goes on as usual other than multiple behavior issues with students today. I was wore out when I got home! Okay..start dinner..Daughter goes to school to log in lab hours. I get a text saying how glad she was to have already signed up for her classes already because a ton of people were lined up at the school to pick at the leftovers. Then a few minutes later I get this: "My goal isn't just for myself to do good in life, but to show you that you raised a child that can go somewhere and will reach their goals. I love you." I nearly dropped the spoon I was using to stir the spaghetti sauce. I literally caught my breath. I was frozen in place with shock. I think about the day I joined this board, it was Thanksgiving Day 2003 after she threatened to stab me for daring to ask her to practice her clarinet (she was whining she was bored) to keep her occupied. The years of medications, therapy, testing, specialists, appointments, and trudging down to the school to deal with problems. To think it might be okay after all....... wow. P.S. Son made honor roll! He's so thrilled! No nagging or interfering from me, he did it on his own. He got his certificate today. I missed it, but my Mom went to the assembly. Of course, I know I still have more tough days to endure with my difficult children, but I want to enjoy the warm sun of joy on this very cold day. It sure ended well...
