To get back on Coralchet1's point...this so rings true. When there is something about your house you hate, like broken things, you don't CARE what the house looks like. My house has never been neat, but my son's issues made it worse, I'm sure. Specifically his door to his room that was riddled with fist-sized holes. I hated that door. I hated to walk down the hall past that door. In turn, I hated the hall and the bathroom across from that door. Why have a nice house with THAT staring you in the face? When he moved out, it took a while, but Jabber and I finally replaced that door. We took the old one out back, broke it into pieces and tried to burn it. Turns out, they make interior doors really fireproof...so we put it in trash, but we TRIED to burn it! We let son move back after his apartment fire and...he punched his door. I just about lost my MIND! Really - that was the beginning of the end for me. Jabber had to stop me because I was about to do violence, I swear...at least verbally. I still remember the fight. I told him to leave. He threatened suicide. I threatened the psychiatric ward and 5 point restraints. It was ugly. So now we have a door with a fist-sized hole. Again. He's been gone nearly a year and it's still there. But at least it's only one hole and in the dark hall I almost forget it's there. Sometimes. I have the day off on Friday. I think I'll go buy a door.
