Sorry she is such a PITA for you. I've come to the decision to limit my kids' exposure to husband's parents for similar reasons. The last time we left mother in law in charge with the kids for any length of time (during husband's surgery last winter), she got into a slap fest with difficult child 2 because he was rude to her (of course, he was hypoMANIC at the time, too). After that, he cried that he wanted them to go home NOW! Pretty sad. I understand why she slapped him, but I'll never forgive her for it. And since she has so little understanding and self-control, she's ruined her chances of a close relationship with my kids forever. Period. I won't leave them in her care overnight ever again. There comes a time when you have to decide whether or not to continue the effort at their education, or if it's better to just set your boundaries and stick to it. It may feel hard at first, but I think it ultimately makes life easier for everyone if you can do that. Good luck!
