Ugh. On the other hand, your husband now says he sees the merits of a hotel during visit so score one for a sanity saving option now available for future visits. I'm glad you were able to have birthday breakfast with Jamie and even though it sounds plenty of things occurred to irk you (with reason) I'm sure it meant a lot to Jamie, which often makes the trials of visits worthwhile in itself. And even though it may not be apparent, the grandkids will have those memories as they grow older that you were there for them. Even if they never get how important and valuable that is, there is always a chance one day they'll look back fondly and gratefully. And if it never happens, inside you can feel good knowing you did your absolute best even when uncomfortable. Your daughter in law sounds like a total trip. I think every family is fated to have at least one person like her that is intolerable but unfortunately must be tolerated. Sounds like you are finding small ways to make it bearable and i'm glad to hear it. I'm a smoker who wishes I wasnt. I know its a nasty habit. Yet sometimes that "going outside for a smoke" is the greatest life saver in desperate moments isn't is? lol
