easy child wore a Guiness shirt to school today. Granted he shouldn't have, but what happened next was ridiculous. The choir teacher was in the attendance office when he got there and she told him he needed to turn his shirt inside out. He said he would. She told him again and he said he would. I don't know if she expected him to strip right there in the hall or what. She then sent an email out to the entire school staff stating: easy child is wearing a beer shirt. Please be on the lookout. easy child's first period teacher showed him the email. The teacher thought it was ridiculous. So, this is my email to the principal, assistant principals and the choir teacher: It was brought to my attention that on April 16, 2009, an email was sent out to the entire XXX staff regarding my son, easy child. The content of the email stated the following: easy child is wearing a beer shirt. Please be on the look out. When easy child entered the building on Thursday, April 16, D.G. was in the Attendance Office. She saw easy child's shirt and told him he needed to turn it inside out. To which he replied, "OK." D.G. repeated to easy child that he needed to turn his shirt inside it, and easy child responded that he would. He was not going to strip in the hall in front of other students and teachers/personnel, as that would have been inappropriate. He was going to change his shirt in the bathroom, which he did following this conversation. For the record, it is now 8:23 PM and his shirt is still inside out. However, that did not stop the above mentioned email from being sent to the entire XXX staff. easy child found it laughable; I find it petty and completely inappropriate. easy child does not drink nor do drugs; he does not cheat, steal, nor lie; he is not aggressive nor violent, and he has not gotten into any physical altercations at school. He has missed a lot of school this year due to documentable illness. I would think it would be a better use of the staff's time to focus on those issues, rather than singling out a student because he preferred to change his shirt in the boys room rather than the hall. I expect that this will not happen again. Heather XX
