ssi and stepparent?

i have a son who is recieving ssi and i just got remarried about a year ago,what i need to know is why do they count a stepparents income? they even count my eldest daughter's (16 yr old)income where she works after school? i dont understand this.and now where at his job he got a few hours of over time (this will not last past christmas)they are saying my son's ssi could be taken?what can i do?

I'm no expert but I believe they count *all* income and assets in a household to determine SSI benefits for a minor. I honestly don't know what your options are, other than to talk with- the folks at Social Security.
