weird sleep thing

Loving Abbey 2

Not really a Newbie
I'm not sure where to post this. Or even if anyone knows the answer. Does anyone "dream" that they are half asleep but can't breath. It's like I can't get my mouth to open and I'm sufficating. And I really really want to wake up but I can't, it's like I'm paralyzed. I get the whole symbolizism of it, but anyone think maybe it's like sleep apneia? Something actually wrong or just a really bad dream?

I do have asthma and it's pretty well maintained. Not being able to breath is the worst thing, and I want these "dreams" to stop.

This is called sleep paralysis and occurs just as the body is coming into or leaving REM (dreaming sleep).

It can stand alone or can be a component of narcolepsy.

If you have a sleep study done, it will show a specific brain wave pattern during these episodes.

Definitely get a sleep study done. You will want to rule out sleep apnea. Or, find out if you have it. If you do, there are ways to take care of it. Good luck, sweetie. Let us know!
