I think I'd rather see it on a four year old than a twelve year old. Four year olds are trick or treating with mom, and it's obviously a joke. I think I dressed as Mae West when I was about 6. It was silly more than anything. Twelve year olds are in pairs or packs of twelve year olds. Not a lick of sense between them. I remember driving to get M from school one day 8 - 10 years ago on a hot day. There were two girls waiting to cross the street at a light, going the same direction I was. I was making a left, so in the center lane. They were about 11 - 12 years old. One was dressed a little over the top. The other had on cut off low rise shorts that were cut in an upward arc at the back, and the bottom of her buns were hanging out at the bottom of a prettily scalloped edge. The men driving by were gawking and it was lucky there wasn't too much traffic or there would have been an accident. I think it was at that very moment that I realized how incredibly dangerous it is for girls of that age (give or take a little) to dress like that. It's not on the girls, because they don't know better. But because they don't know better, they're not going to know how to handle some cute older guy who approaches them, either. Or how to get out of it if they are not smart enough to not go off with them. Luckily, we all get to have our own opinions, I guess. But that sight sure shocked me into a different way of thinking about how I would prefer any tween or teen I care about to dress, and why.
