Well, we didn't go to Taco Bell afterall
We did go to one of the smaller family-owned Mexican restaurants. No wait, good food, and I splurged on a strawberry Margarita (or two)
husband thought the holiday was for Mexican Independence, but I corrected him (as I am so prone to doing anyway
). Mexican Independence Day is September 16th. Cinco de Mayo is a regional holiday in Mexico that celebrates the battle of Puebla, where the French army, which had not been defeated in 50 years, got their butts whipped by a bunch of rag-tag fighters in the state of Puebla. It's not really celebrated much in Mexico, but outside the country it has become a day to celebrate Mexican heritage. Sorta like what St. Patrick's Day has become here in the States.
And thus concludes your world history lesson for the day. Ole!
