a new funding source for clients of public mental health services?

I was at a NAMI meeting last night and one of the attendees mentioned that her sister had applied to a newly created fund that will help the mentally ill and/or their families afford necessities. Supposedly, the fund will award individuals as much as $5000 which they can use to purchase anything from eyeglasses, to dental work, to an automobile.

The story I was told is that it is nationwide and was established through a recent grant from someone's estate.

To me, it sounds a bit too good to be true.

If it's an actual grant, then it COULD be true. I would just be sure to do research on it. I can see that happening though...someone who has dealt with this and knows what is and isn't out there for people...it could happen.
