What should I expect?

I don't know why, but I'm really nervous about my neurology appointment tomorrow. I mean, feeling sick to my stomach nervous.

I've never been to this kind of specialist and wondered if anyone could tell me what I might expect? It helps settle my nerves if I have some idea of what I'm looking forward to.

I've been to a neurologist and more recently, I've taken my daughter to one. Mine was very uneventful and I don't even remember what he did. I did leave with some prescriptions for headaches.

For my daughter, he took a detailed history, ordered an MRI, and did a few tests like walk in a straight line, toe to toe; touch each finger to her thumb in order; walk backwards in a straight line; checked her reflexes; things like that.

I'm glad you are getting to see someone tomorrow. I hope you get some answers.

I went to a neurology appointment with my grandfather, and it was a fairlyoddparent described. Many times they will order an MRI or other type of imageing test.

I don't know why I'm so nervous, but everytime I think about it I feel sick.

I had a Brain MRI in December and am taking the disk and report with me. It sounds like the rest of the appointment will be pretty straight-forward then.

fairlyodd hit an "exam" by a neurologist pretty well on target. Travis has been to several and what she described seems to be pretty standard.

Tests to be ordered and such will be determined by the exam, history, and your symptoms.

I'll hold a good thought for you tomorrow, and will be saying a prayer it goes well.

I feel like such a baby, but I'm sitting here in tears. I do not know why I'm reacting like this, but I am absolutely terrified and there is noone to go with me. My appointment is at noon and my mom will be at work. She worked into her lunch hour today and said they are going to be more busy tomorrow, so there's no way she can meet me there.

I wish it were tomorrow night so it would be over with.

I had the MRI and Nerve tests down... lots os blood test... The nerve tests were kind of painful. They poke you with the needle... make you tense up and read a screen to see if your nerves are affected while he is jamming you with a needle. My Doctor was not the most, gentle... I have had better.
I was having unexplained pain down my side...
X-rays... had me push and pull and walk the line... he told me all about his allergies... he was real number!!!

Geez, Heather - I see the neuro doctor at least once a month. I can not only give myself the exam, I can tell you the results! :rofl:

Really, the initial exam is pretty easy. Checking reflexes, examining your eyes, checking your balance & gait by walking heel to toe, etc.

If the initial exam shows anything concerning or if your GP has asked for a rule out of something else, there may be an EEG, MRI or CAT scan ordered. Sometimes, if there is nerve issues the neuro doctor may do a nerve conduction test (forget the name, but it's what totoro mentioned).

Now I can go on from there....but let's keep those fun things alone until or unless you have them ordered. Just not worth going into at this time.

Hey Heather! Just hoping that you're all set for the appointment. today!

You're probably nervous because you had to wait so long, you fought for the appointment. and now you don't know what to expect. Linda is soooo right! The first visit is really pretty easy. I had to take my sister, and we were cracking up almost the whole time (after a while I think we were starting to annoy the doctor!).

Relax, unwind, breathe and know that it HAS to be better than going to the GYN!!!

Three years ago or maybe four - I was diagnosis with a brain tumor. (no kidding) I had to go see a neurologist. It was like any other doctor - white coat, flashy smile, boring magazines in the office, and of course please pay before you leave -

It will be fine - I didn't end up having a tumor - so that was the good news - and they weren't able to help me with most of my symptoms. Then they said = maybe Lupus, maybe Cushings. Argh. It's a process of elimination for them to figure out what is wrong with you - so breathe - and know I am with you in spirit. (I'm also there to pilfer coupons out of any magazine, but I promise I'll be discreet)

Write down your questions - so when you go you can ask them and cross them off as they are answered.

Just reading this and wondering how things went today. I had to do the neuro thing last year. It is not so bad.
