Yet another job interview

I'm still trying to find some job that pays a bit more money. It's not so easy here.

I have an interview tomorrow for a REALLY good job at a casino banquet scheduling department. So, we set up the time, then I ask where I should go for the interview. It's not usually in the same casino. Well, there is really no address. It's...ummm...go to Harmon, take a right on Valley View, then a left on Tropicana. Park in the Shark's Reef parking area. Go down to the brown door, then up the ramp, then go all the way to the back. Park, now, go up the escalator to the 3rd floor, then take your 4th right. Find the black door. Make sure you don't go in the brown door. No one will answer, just go in. We'll have it unlocked. Don't go to the door labeled banquets, you need banquet services. (Is there a difference???)

I'm so neurotic. I want to MAPQUEST the darn thing, but there is no address. I'm going to be flipping out all day wondering if I can find this place. Knowing me, I'll be there 2 hours early just to make sure I can find it.

Wish me luck.

Sounds like finding the place could be the test to see if you're qualified -- if you can find it, you have to have something on the ball; if you can't, they don't have to waste the time interviewing you.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll do fine once you find the place.

Yeah, this is the mouse maze part of the interview. Once you're in there, the interview is half over.
I'd bring my cell ph with-me, though ...

Yep, I'd for sure be doing a "trial run". How legit is this? If they ask you to do this as a test indicates to me a company of game players.....could be fun or could be stupid---guess it depends on who's making the rules? Good luck and take your cell phone and find an address that you can report if needed.

I can't wait to hear how it went, Abbey. Surely you will score points by just finding the place!

The interview is not until 4pm today. Great news...(ugh) Our biggest local story today is that this company just laid off 450 employees this morning. Geez, and I'm trying to get a job there. I have great timing. I guess most of them were management. But, I'll still give it a shot if I can find the darn place.

By your description of what they are telling you to get to the interview sounds creepy. It sounds like a scam. I'm curious how this goes too. Is that normal for casino interviews?

It is normal. You might apply at a place like MGM, but be hired by one of their other dozen major properties. (MGM, Mandalay Bay, Mirage, etc.) Most people don't understand that they are owned by the same HUGE company. You never know where the interview takes place or what you're being hired for. You can get the property address, but 457 Vegas Blvd., or whatever, really means nothing. These properties are huge and have lots of lots, etc. I know where Mandalay Bay is, but finding the right garage, right door, and so on is a bit unnerving.

Everything is online, so when you actually get to meet a person, that is a huge step. So, I've got my suit on and ready to roll out the door. Wish me luck.

Job interview went very well. Not sure if it's worth the risk. It's not much more money than I'm making now, and not what I really envisioned for this job. Toss in a 40 minute ride each way, where now I'm 2 minutes away... It's basically deploying 5000+ employees to conventions, parties, etc. All, of course, through the union. Yuck.

I was hoping I'd get to work with clients to set up events.

They said they'll make their decision in 2 weeks.
