This is the most addictive, fascinating website! I've spent hours and hours just looking around on it.

http://www.shorpy.com/shorpy

It's a compilation of very old, very detailed photographs of how life was "way back when". They range from the Civil War days up to the 40's and 50's, but most are from the early 1900's. The site was named for Shorpy Higgenbotham, the boy in the title picture. He was a 14 year old boy who worked in a coal mine in Alabama in 1910. How different his life must have been from our kids of today! There are hundreds, probably thousands of pictures on the site - the further you look, the more you find! The pictures are very clear and sharp and you can enlarge them to see even more details.

Ol' Shorpy may have been born way back in 1896 but he has a Facebook page! If you add him as a "Friend" on Facebook, they will send you links to any new pictures that have been added to the site. Maybe it's just me but I find this stuff absolutely fascinating!
