    Free fall freshman year

Here's an update: he did two summer sessions to get back on track to academic eligibility but lived with his idiot friends fall term sophomore year. it was like they made a group academic and disciplinary suicide pact, and he will only pass 1 of 3 courses he was taking this term. We laid it...

    Free fall freshman year

Here's an update: we sent him back for Spring term because it was easier than figuring out where else to put him. Figured he'll either learn to step up, or learn a lesson. So far this semester, while he's still in academic trouble, he's slightly learning the lesson, and slightly stepping up...

    gap year ideas?

so, difficult child is likely not returning for spring semester of Freshman year at college. Our options are work, community college, or some combo. We are also considering a gap year/semester. Without offering opinions of which way we should go...can anyone please recommend any gap year ideas so we can...

    Free fall freshman year

So, we sent difficult child to a college he really wanted to attend that is perfect for him. Beautiful campus, beautiful people, easy academics. He's popular and having fun but overdoing the partying and missing classes and assignments due to being tired, run down, easily swayed by others to blow off...

I'm actually going to send him to college??

So..he graduates HS with barely a D average in the classes that count and barely gets into the college he really wanted. Spent a month at the Summer semester offered at his college and received a B-,D- and an F (in PE!). Obviously screwing off and smoking pot. Total charmer, winning...

Been through a lot, hoping to see light at end of tunnel..

Seems like difficult child has been pushing limits for two years straight since returning from intervention. Every week its something..either we find pot or he does something dumb (speeding tickets, unauthorized withdrawals from atm, cuts a class, stays out past curfew). We have taken to withholding...

    Normalizing teen behavior?

We did find pot in the car today, and have revoked driving privileges and is grounded through weekend. Good news is that it did not result in a major battle with alot of screaming, this is a major accomplishment. His peers make good decisions about grades, responsibilities, sports, but difficult child is...

    Normalizing teen behavior?

I know I could post this in substance abuse forum, but I am looking to any parents emeritus to share any been there done that experience. difficult child is working hard this summer on his football. He also realizes that his 11th grade report card of C's and D's should have been better..but he is the typical ADHD ODD...

    No driver test

discussion went as expected. alot of yelling, screaming, he punched a wall, broke a kitchen faucet off, but eventualy calmed down and accepted..we also cancelled the driver test for his twin easy child brother (who just isnt ready)..it was ugly, but didnt last forever, and we didnt have to call the...

    No driver test

So, we warned him clearly..."if we catch that you smoked weed, we'll cancel your driving test next week". Of course we caught him today..getting ready for the fireworks when we tell him. Almost wish we could tranquilize him first. We;ll try some dbt, not hopeful. It gets very ugly for the...

    In Denial No More

We elected for "truth over harmony", and keep it very "real". We go through his stuff, monitor who he hangs with, and he knows we reach out to other parents with info on their kids. He likes living at home, and the comforts of his family. And he knows we love him, but we dont hesitate to get...

Let's all check in! Say hello, post an update, whatever!

Hanging in there...difficult child is finishing up a full year back in the local school..straight C-'s, and behavior is barely acceptable, but not too far off from "typical" teen behavior which is a big improvement from where we were a year ago..looked at some colleges and did decent on ACT, likely a gap...

    Doing ok

Great news, one day at a time..when our difficult child came home we had rallied his positive peer group to be supportive, that's a big help , glad to hear he has positive peer support

    medications question

so..difficult child is doing "ok-ish". Getting by with C- average thanks to the tutors, inclusion classes, and resource room.. We want to restart an ADHD medication, and looking for any anecdotal experience when adding these to a current mix of lexapro and risperdal. We have licensed p-docs, etc. thanks Enzo

so...difficult child was having an "ok" summer. Better peer group, but still too much partying. He went to a 3 week summer enrichment program at a midwestern university, and of course found a way to get high every day. He came home to find he was grounded, and went thru the roof. Refused to take his...

Need advice: "can I just smoke a little?"

difficult child is trying to comply with our rules, and has been mostly good at home. Problem is that his positive peers are now smoking pot instead of drinking.(runaway pot use was difficult child's downfall earlier this year). Positive peers are all responsible achievers who can be responsible the next day...difficult child...
