Am I responsible for adult difficult child's unpaid hospital bill?

My daughter is still covered under my family insurance policy at work. However, now that she is over 18, I had understood that she is responsible for any balance not covered by insurance.

The local clinic automatically set up a separate account for her as soon as she turned 18.

However, the local hospital is sending me to collections claiming I am responsible to pay the $700 balance still due from the birth of my granddaughter. I am disputing their attempt to collect and have been turned over to a collection agency. (This is uncommon for me and I would hate to see my credit rating affected. Still, I hate to knuckle under if the hospital is out of bounds in expecting me to pay.)

Does anyone have any knowledge related to this type of situation?

If she used your coverage you are responsible for any subsequent charges as you are the policyholder. The best thing to do I guess would be to work out a payment schedule then see if you can see an attorney and figure out a way to sue your daughter to make her reimburse you.
