I think a lot of people getting the big refunds are because of the earned income credit. If I remember correctly, but it was a long time ago, we would get a refund bigger than we paid in. I remember feeling guilty about that...
Now that we don't qualify for the EIC and are in a different tax bracket, I end up paying a little in...
Bonuses are always taxed at the bonus rate. It kills me every year, too...

Wow I can't believe the size of some of those refunds. I must be doing something wrong.

Spend $35k out of your own pocket to move across the country for a job and you, too could hope to clear $2.5k on your next filing.

We don't qualify for the EIC because we make too much but we usually wind up getting a little back every year. Nothing crazy though - enough to put towards a vacation and not feel guilty! lol
