ME Time What do you do??

Although school is out, summer can be a stressful time with difficult children. Often we get so caught up in the drama and chaos of gfgdom that we forget to take care of ourselves. Or heck, we're just so stressed out that we can't even manage to think of ways to help us to relax and enjoy a part of our day.

So? What are some of the things you do to help yourself destress and to find a little peace during the day?

Over the years I've come up with many interests that give me pleasure. Reading a good Dean Koontz book, knitting or crocheting, drawing, gardening.....

But my tried and true method of relaxation is maybe a bit unusual. lol

I play the Sims. It's a computer game that simulates real life. Lots of fun. And I don't have to have difficult children if I don't want them. Sort of like playing Barbies and dollhouse all rolled up into a computer game.

I float around in the pool. It's nice and quiet in the backyard and when I'm there, I feel like the only person in the world.

I have learned to be still and quiet and enjoy the critter's feeding in the back. Birds, squirrels and rabbits all enjoy the feed we put out for them.

I also go to this neat place for a pedicure. I had only had one the day before my wedding, but I have enjoyed it almost every week for the past mth. You sit in a massage chair with your feet soaking in a warm bath with jets. She lights a candle and does an entire lower leg and foot massage, ending with the same scent lotion. I could stay in that chair for hours, it is the most relaxing thing I have done for myself.

I take medications, go to therapy and play online games...lol. Once in a blue moon I will actually venture out to eat by myself with a book but its a real treat. I used to do it more often but I cant get away anymore.

I also like to "window shop" on ebay.

Lately, I come on here and read. What a life...lol.

Otherwise, I get away just to run to Target or Walmart and wander around looking at clearance. Search the internet for fun things to do. Read the R Blog (Rosie O'Donnell). Watch on demand movies. Anything that is me by myself without any kids.

I dance. Put whatever I'm in the mood for on the stereo and go for it! Rock, hip hop, even oldies. Embarasses my daughter to no end but it's fun and good exercise.

If I need quiet time, it's a good book, the bathtub and candles. For super stress times, I drive. If that's not enough, I go dance and then drive some more. Amazing how relaxed I feel when I've done that for a few hours, especially when I hit the back roads with no traffic and can just let loose.

I take the dogs to the lake. I find myself feeling more an more tired, exhausted that I don't even want to do that. I love the water, so sometimes I just go to the Lake and sit alone.

I exercise-I know I've said it before but for me it's a huge stress relief. I always feel so much better after I'm done! I also love to read! Right now I'm reading the Stephanie Plum series. I love to be at a pool or beach and relax! Naps are huge for me to-helps me feel refreshed. I also play this anagrams game on my computer (not on the internet just one we bought).

In summer I like to go to the beach. Or I dabble in my herb garden (or my vegetable garden). Or I paint. When I get larger chunks of uninterrupted time, I write. Or edit other people's books (I've got one to do now, but I'm waiting until I feel a bit better, after this cold - don't want to find I've made some horrible gaffes which will have wasted a lot of time).

When I'm not doing any of that, in spare minutes here or there, I do Sudoku.

The drugs - got no choice. I sympathise with House. But as long as I function, rather than am impaired, I figure it's not a problem. My pain specialist feels the same.

My favorite pastime is to piddle in my unruly and very, very dry garden. I also work out regularly at our humble YMCA - we have a tracking program called FITLINXX that tracks your "points" and gives little prizes. For some reason that is incredibly motivating for me  I can succeed at something!!! I read, read, read - anything and everything. Most fun of all - drinking some of my hubbie's home brewed Oatmeal Stout. He's a serious homebrewer (his "me time") and his beer is delish...
Hmm... sounds like I have a lot of free time, but not really...

Sudoku is a puzzle game (my latest fascination, being homebound) where there are 9 squares, and each square has 9 squares. You are given random numbers in the puzzle. The object is that each large square has the numbers 1-9 (one in each small square), every vertical line also must contain 1-9, and every horizontal line, the same. There are to be no repeats.

The less random numbers that you are given to start with, the more challenging.

Google it, they have online versions (which I also play). My favorite games to play online are "escape the room" games or spades (multiplayer).

I think I'm going to have to stock up at the library. husband and difficult child are camping this weekend so I'll have the house to myself. I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do yet but I'm sure I'll think of something! :reading:  :beach:
