Hello all...
My mother in law, who has been more of a true mother to me than my difficult child-mother ever was, is very very sick and starting to go downhill fast.
She's had cancer (leukemia and angiosarcoma) for the past 5 years or so, and has defied all the odds to even survive this long. The lady is a fighter. She was a WREN AND a pinup girl in World War 2, and she has lived her life to the fullest ever since.
Until now. Now she just lies in her bed or sits in her chair, staring at the wall. Doesn't even seem to have the strength to watch TV or listen to the radio.
brother in law (stupid, STUPID man!) insisted on joining us for Christmas dinner, even though he had H1N1. He passed it off as "a little cold or something". Well, mother in law caught H1N1 from him, and then pneumonia, which knocked her completely out. She stayed in bed, not eating or drinking anything, for 3 full days before she phoned anyone for help. We got her to the hospital, got her treated and now she's back home and on the mend, physically anyway.
We've moved difficult child out of the Residential Treatment Center (RTC) temporarily and he's been staying with her full-time as her companion. Part of difficult child's vocational training at the Residential Treatment Center (RTC) has been as an elder companion, he loves his Nana, and he is doing so very well looking after her. But she's just giving up. Hasn't left her bedroom in days. Won't do anything. difficult child makes her eat and drink, but that's about it.
I think she's just worn out, but gentle souls in my life have been too few. I'm not ready to lose another one just yet. I know the power of the Board is mighty. Please say prayers, rattle beads, do the nekkid chicken liver dance, throw whatever you've got at it.
