Mom? What's a difficult child?
Her Current teacher was there, School Psychologist, Spec. ED Teacher, Speech, Adaptive PE (which she has), Me and husband and Nuero-psychiatric and the best part her 2nd grade teacher!
I guess they normally are not supposed to let you know who next years teacher is going to be.
But they felt because of K's social issues she should be in the meeting! Plus it was the Teacher I wanted her to have!!!
Because the meeting was such short notice they were just compiling all of the info and we are going to do the actual IEP first week of School.
They did not have enough time to do her Occupational Therapist (OT) or Speech testing either.
We will get it all together in the beginning week of school, they all felt this was vital.
They pretty much all felt everything we asked for is important. They will go over the fine print and decide about the details.
Her new teacher took us aside and said she will take care of K.
We were concerned about things like her fear of the cafeteria and her inability to deal with bullies...
We are likely going to keep Adaptive PE and social group, add Occupational Therapist (OT) for handwriting and speech.
Then add all of the other social, breaks, ability to move, need for less homework, adapted for writing in class.
ability to go to nurse for breaks when needed.
There was a lot more.
It went really well and we were so happy!
Also her Spec. ED teacher if she needs her has a BiPolar (BP) son!!! and this woman knows N really well because she is working with another boy in N's class.
Another thing they told us on the side, they are adding another 2nd grade class in order to keep the classes small, 16-17 in each class! This would be 3 classes. We are a tiny School.
They said also because they have so many special needs children. So far we have counted 10 in first grade and there are likely more because we can't know about all of them? That would be 3-4 in each class. K's class has 5 right now!!!
Anyway I am so happy!
